The analysis of the laptop battery replacement cost

The analysis of the laptop battery replacement cost

With the growing popularity of notebook computers, laptop battery is getting more important to consumer attention. A good laptop battery is not only give the great convenience for user's mobile commerce and digital lives, but also can eliminate insecurity of future use. A bad laptop battery, for the user unable to meet their mobile digital life. It will also bring the hidden dangers to users, especially security issues. A battery explosion caused the destruction of a notebook, or even ohter serious consequences. So choose a good laptop battery is significantly thing.

However, the thinkpad x40 battery original price is hundreds dollars. So that many users used to choice and better cost-effective laptop battery replacement. The laptop replacement market price is between 30 - 100 dollar. So it is difficult for consumers to judge its quality from the price.

In this article the author will help the customers to choose the best thinkpad x41 battery from the current market. We will analyze the composition and design of laptop batteries to compare the battery price and quality.

Laptop battery is made up of a lithium-ion 18650 cells with protection circuit board and PVC plastic shell. Then we will analysis of their costs on item in the follwing steps:

1. There are three kinds of 18650 lithium-ion battery in the market: 2200,2400,2600 mA. A typical ThinkPad X41 Tablet Battery with six battery assembly (Series 2 and 3). If it is a genuine original batteries, typically Japan and South Korea or domestic manufacturers A formal 18650 cells. These batteries have the quality and safety assurance through rigorous testing, the cost is usually in the 3-4 dollars (based on the different capacities). So a normal laptop battery (6-cell) costs around 20 dollars. If B grade, or batteries disassemble from the old machine (the quality and even safety issues batteries from Japan and South Korea). Their price between 1.5-2 dollar. Such Lenovo Thinkpad X61 battery assembly or re-assembled into a 6cell laptop battery cost 10-15 dollar. In addition, even worse, some manufacturers use more poor illegal 18650, often have security problems (that can cause the battery explosion), its 6cell laptop battery only cost 8 dollar or less.

2. Laptop battery PCB control panel : a good control panel can extend laptop battery life and protect the safety. Its cost is usually 10 dollar; If it is bad dysfunction PCB ThinkPad X60 Battery control panel, or board disassemble from the old machine, its cost is only 5 dollar.

3. Laptop battery PVC plastic shell, the cost of a good plastic shell is 5 dollar, a bad Lenovo thinkpad x200 battery low-quality goods cost less than 1.5 dollar.

4. Labor, equipment, venues, with an average around 4 dollar each cell.

On the basis of the above , a good quality assurance laptop battery such as VGP-BPS9/S (6 cell) costs should be at 40 dollar. So a good 6Cell laptop battery replacement price (including operations cost and profit) is oftern 60-80 dollar in the market ; If it is a inferior quality goods, the market price is 40-50 dollar; If it is the lowest quality laptop battery (the cell and PCB control panel are both disassembled from the old machine), the price is 30-40 dollar.

In all the laptop battery quality is as its price. We should buy the suitable Sony VGP-BPS8 battery in the market, do not take too much attention to its price or it is orginal item or not.

Customer review :

I would not get this product. I would not buy a laptop from Dell again. Laptop Battery barely lasted a year and was told I had to buy another one that this was the normal life of battery. Bad Product!

This Dell Inspiron E1505 Battery just died on me. it wont charge more than 37% and now i have to buy another one...

The replacement products in Amazon review :

was skeptical buying this battery for my Dell Inspiron 1420, being it so cheap. Any computer store around where I live the batteries were over $150 for standard capacity and even more expensive [...]. This is a great buy.

The only downside is that it is a heavy Dell Inspiron 1420 Battery and was not fully charged when I first put it in.

Otherwise, it works well and gives me 4 hours to float around on battery.

Since receiving (Amsahr-quick delivery) and using this Dell Inspiron 1720 Battery and charging and discharging it approximately 6 times, it has performed excellently and with high performance. It also fits perfectly like the original, and was priced very reasonable.

Power your notebook with any battery

Power your notebook with any battery

As we all know the laptop battery is important to our laptop. Some times when your laptop battery run out in the open air, what should you do? Go home to get a replacement. No no you need not. Take out your torch battery to power your laptop.

In fact, laptop batteries can be replaced with any other kind of offers it is right or sufficient voltage. Here I am with two 6V LIFEBOOK T4010 battery manipulated up to twice the voltage to the power of a Compaq Armada 110th.

Step 1 Remove power

All you need for your old Fujitsu Lifebook T4020 battery to disassemble the battery, I was very stubborn and I have it only with a considerable distance to cosmetic damage, please try to set it apart from the contacts when the battery is connected to the laptop, I have but not real pictures of this step, as I have about 1 month ago, and I just un-earthed casing of the battery when you've received a little wrung from the battery housing to things either easier or a little more difficult was the Battery Compaq merged, so I was almost broken just plastic!

After the Lifebook T4220 battery unless you have some 9-cell battery, depending on the type of laptop was to find battery. You need to pull out all those bulky batteries, which certainly does not lead to rip the wire to the batteries from the board (Figure 2)

Step 2 Source improvise and power

To some batteries in the laptop, I have two Fujitsu Lifebook T4310 battery in my 5 million candle power torch, to assess each 6V to 12V to get as they were manipulated together for combined power, power, I do not know how long they modified battery is fully charged, but I guess at least 30 minutes. 100% CPU

If you have two batteries you need to red) to positive (a battery to the negative (black connect) from the other Fujitsu Lifebook T4410 battery .

Step 3 Connect power.

Now that they've been getting your Fujitsu Lifebook T5010 battery, the next thing to do is connect them to the leads of the laptop battery board, you have the positive of your new batteries to the positive lead connected to the PCB. I recommend that the cables of a decent length for a simple, but also tinged with red and black wires to the corresponding compounds battery (ie connected to red, red), it makes things easier.

Step 4 Replace remastered Battery

I had a small hole for the wires to pass from the Dell Inspiron 1721 Battery case, remember this and to do, so that the cables come in a handy place to do this if you do not want to spoil your battery housing provides good.

Step 5 Testing the new power

It must be said that I use to boot to the A / C power connector on the laptop, but after that it worked well without the A / C had power, I do not know if this because the laptop is old and it couldn 't was you know the batteries to boot the laptop, but it does recognize the Dell Inspiron 6400 Battery with the A / C power is connected and switched off the laptop.

How to test a dead Battery Charger

How to test a dead Battery Charger

The dead battery charger means the charger can not work : can not charge the laptop battery or can not run the laptop. When our laptop battery can not charge, we must check the battery and charger state. Now let me list the steps of test our battery and charger below.

Make sure the powerbook g4 battery charger cable is plugged in and the output is to power.

Look closely at the battery. Is there corrosion or leakage? If so, replace the inspiron 6400 battery immediately.

Test the charger. For DC chargers, a voltmeter set at 25 VDC and touch the contacts with the probes. The meter should read about more than 1 V Evaluation of the shipper. If the reading is zero, change inspiron 6000 battery catheters.

Testing a AC charger through the establishment of a voltmeter to 25 VAC. Tap the contact probes. The transformer in the pa3399u 2brs charger is bad if you get no reading.

Check contacts. These are strips of metal or points in the appliance and charging cradle. With the Dell latitude d600 battery charger unplugged, clean with a cotton swab. Use a fine emery board to remove visible corrosion.

The waste heat improve the 100% battery life of laptop ana cell phone

The waste heat improve the 100% battery life of laptop ana cell phone

If we use every gadget or as a means of comfort that we know that these devices consume energy. But the Dell Inspiron E1405 Battery energy is not used by devices. A portion of the energy is lost in the form of friction and heat. For example, if we will use the power of computer processor chips, motors and power plants, there is a need to get rid of excess heat is not the equipment will not perform to their optimal level. Now, researchers have to think about the use of these Dell Latitude D410 Battery wastes energy. Peter Hagelstein is the co-author of this concept and is an associate professor of electrical engineering at MIT. His paper was published in the November 2009 issue of Journal of Applied Physics.

When this Dell Latitude D620 Battery energy is wasted, we could cleverly exploited the use of mobile phones double talk time without insert it again and again to recharge. The same could be the case with our laptops, we do not recharge it too often and could also reduce wear and tear. The revised and overloaded power plants can use shell more power when its wasted heat energy can be used.

Hagelstein is of the opinion that the current solid-state devices using excessive heat and convert it into electrical Dell U4873 Dell D5318 energy are not very efficient. He works with his graduate student Dennis Wu as part of his doctoral thesis to find out practically reliable heat converters, which does not carry us his predecessor's drawbacks. They are gunning manipulator for a realistic technology to come to the realization of the theoretical limits for the efficiency of conversion could.

Postulates that such Dell GD761 Dell 75uyf energy can never go beyond an accurate reading than the Carnot limit. Carnot limit was in the 19 Century, founded. It is a formula for determining the maximum efficiency that the machine can achieve in converting heat into work. But the fact is, in practice, we have reached only about one tenth of this limit. Hagelstein, in close collaboration with Yan Kucherov experiments carried out by a different technology. They have the enviable efficiency as high as 40 percent of the Carnot limit reached. Furthermore, their statistics show that this new type of system could ultimately up to 90 percent, the ceiling.

Hagelstein, Wu and others do not try to improve on the existing equipment. She began again without any past baggage. They use a very simple system in which Dell Inspiron 6000 Battery power was through a single quantum dot state-generated device. This device is a type of semiconductor in which electrons and holes are very confident in all three dimensions is limited. So they tried to understand all the functions of the device. This helped them to better understand every aspect of such a machine.

Hagelstein says that he wants to not only convert heat into electricity, but he decided to do this by achieving a lot of XPS M1210 Battery energy in return for. He also admits that the current technology is available to use, heat output, but start with one. It's as high-throughput power. It converts heat from a less efficient system and you get more energy. But this is bigger and more expensive system. After Hagelstein "It is a compromise. Either you get high efficiency and high throughput." But the team found that with their new system, it would be possible to get both at once.

Hagelstein and his team studied a recent paper by MIT professor Gang Chen carefully released. They talked about closing the gap between the hot surface and the conversion device. They suggested that this Dell XPS M1530 Battery scheme is very important for improving performance. Gang Chen said that the heat transfer could be between very closely refrain surfaces at a rate that is orders of magnitude higher than those predicted by the theory. The new report provides a further step, the heat can be transferred not only to be turned into electricity, so they can be used.

Robert DiMatteo heads a company MTPV Corp. (for Micron gap thermal photovoltaic). DiMatteo is ready to commercialize new Hagelstein idea. He is quite confident that the technology developed by his company to a tenfold improvement in Inspiron E1505 Battery performance over existing photovoltaic devices shown. He plans to market the technology next year. At the same time Hagelstein would give the work of the required impact and a further ten-fold or greater improvement is possible.

DiMatteo presented his statistics and says that globally, if we consume fuel or a power plant generates electricity for nearly Dell Latitude D800 Battery 60 percent of all energy is wasted. This waste is usually in the form of heat. 60% substantial amount. DiMatteo is now hope that the technology to make "it could possible to recover a substantial portion of this energy wasted."

Hagelstein is of the opinion: "It is a gold mine Dell Latitude D600 Battery in heat, if it could convert. A lot of heat is generated to go to places, and much is lost. If you could recover that your transport is technology, better . work "

How to reduce your Laptop working Heat

How to reduce your Laptop working Heat

There you have it – proof positive that using a notebook computer unprotected can burn your lap and other delicate parts. So what are we to do? Stop using our Lifebook T4220 battery notebooks? I don’t think so! There are ways to have safe computing, you know. But for the 65 million or so notebook users in america, the heat hazard poses an even greater threat to their computers. Over time, the heat source that burns our lap can have an equally devastating effect on the internal components of our notebook.

So how does one have safe computing without losing intimacy with our notebook, while also protecting it from overheating? The answer is obvious - use protection. What kind? Try a Google search with the keywords “Laptop Desk” or “Lap Desk” or “Lap Tray”. There you will find all kinds of protection for both you and your notebook. We plowed through the many listings and narrowed the field to nine products that should help you practice safe computing.

But before we get to the product comparisons, let us be clear that groin burns aren’t the only hazard that notebook users are susceptible to. There are other hazards—both to the user and the Lifebook T4020 battery notebook itself—that originate from two common notebook uses: Mobile use (on your lap) and stationary use (on your desktop).

Hazards When Using a Laptop on Your Lap:

Based on research conducted by LapWorks, Inc. (www.lapworksinc.com), two-thirds of all notebook owners reported using their notebooks while mobile more often than stationary. Which means that notebook (Fujitsu FPCBP155 Fujitsu FPCBP200 ) owners prefer 2 to 1 using their notebook in their easy chair watching TV, in airline terminals, in hotel lobbies or in bed surfing the Internet, as opposed to desktop use. as we rove around using our notebooks in different ways, lap (or groin) burns are possible unless we use some form of protection.

a pillow is not a good choice. Many mobile users will sandwich a pillow between themselves and the notebook to protect their laps from “Hot Leg.” This comforts the user, but unfortunately does no favors for the Fujitsu Lifebook T4310 battery computer. The pillow acts as an insulator and contains the heat within the notebook, accelerating overheating. The notebook’s cooling fan then cycles on repeatedly ‘gasping for air’ until it shuts your computer down to protect itself from serious heat damage.

Finally, you could permanently damage your notebook with a fatal drop. a white paper study conducted by IDC (International Data Corp., a Framingham, Mass. research firm) concluded that 68% of all damage to Fujitsu Lifebook T4410 battery notebooks comes from being dropped. This includes sliding off the user’s lap and crashing to a hard and unforgiving floor. IDC further reported that in 2001, it cost businesses and industry over one billion dollars to repair broken notebooks, and replace them in some cases, totaling approximately $1,400 per incident.

Solutions to the Hazards of Lap Use:

Find a product with non-slip surfaces that spans your lap completely, can hold even the largest portable, and shields your lap from its blistering heat. Road warriors will also want something that’s lightweight, thin, and folds so it can easily fit in the computer bag.

To protect the computer from its own heat, find something with built-in ventilation channels that can actually reduce heat. You can reduce heat in two ways: convection (exchanging warm air for cool air) and conduction (transferring heat by contact from a warm surface to a cool surface). Look for products that reduce heat through convection or conduction or both as Fujitsu Lifebook T5010 battery .

Hazards When Using a Laptop on your Desk:

Strange as it may sound, the greatest risk of injuring yourself personally will most likely come when you use your notebook on a desktop over long periods of time. It is here that we risk injuring our neck and shoulders from hazards such as:

Lower than recommended viewing height of the notebook screen

Flat typing angle, or lack of incline of the notebook’s keyboard

Since most notebook computers are set flat on the desktop, their Dell Latitude D620 Battery screen heights are all below the recommended, “ergonomically correct” viewing level. This means you must strain your neck to find information at the bottom of the screen, which can lead to more serious back problems over time. The recommended height for a computer screen is positioning the top of the screen at, or slightly below, eye level. This lets your eyes do the searching, instead of having to bend and strain your neck.

another hazard comes from the Dell Latitude D630 Battery notebook’s flat keyboard. In this position, we are forced to move our elbows away from our body to get our hands in the right position to type. Supporting our arms away from our body for long periods of time eventually strains the shoulders and back so that typing becomes tiring and more stressful.

The immediate effects of neck and back strain are discomfort and reduced productivity, but medical experts agree they can lead to more permanent health problems over time.

Solutions to the Hazards of Desk Use:

Ideally, the answer is to raise the back of the Dell Inspiron 6000 Battery notebook computer to such an angle that it will:

allow natural convection (and conduction if possible) to take place under the computer, reducing heat build-up and cooling your computer.

Raise the viewing screen height closer to eye level, reducing neck strain.

Put the keyboard in an incline allowing elbows to remain by your side in a more ergonomically comfortable typing angle.

Heat is Your Laptop’s Worst Enemy:

aside from the catastrophic crash to the floor, the greatest damage to Dell Inspiron 6400 Battery notebooks comes from poor ventilation that causes overheating. Eventually, this overheating causes permanent damage, shortening your notebook’s life.

Overheating is the result of the market’s competitive demand for the thinnest form factor and greater processing power. The solution? Find a product that can actually reduce the heat by as much as 15% to 20%, which means your notebook’s cooling fan won’t cycle on as often, and your notebook computer can live a longer, healthier life!

Conclusion:

There are products that address these hazards, each to a greater or lesser degree. Keep in mind that the hazards listed above are real and documented, not just sales hype. If you are a committed Dell Inspiron E1405 Battery notebook user, you’ll want to create the safest computing environment whenever and wherever you choose to use your notebook.

Give serious consideration to the below list of nine products and select the one that best meets your specific needs. and be careful out there . . . now that groin burns have been documented, you’ll want to use Dell Inspiron 1520 Battery protection from now on so you can always practice safe computing.

Customer Review:

I have had other laptop batteries lasting well over two years. This one really disappointed me. It looks like in order to cut costs, Dell may have sacrificed quality.

From the looks of it, many people are having the same problem I have with the laptop battery. The battery was giving decent run times until it reached an age of about 20 months. After that, it went to about 10 minutes of run time.

While this is not an absolutely horrible lifetime, I typically have had Dell Latitude D830 Battery last about 3 to 3.5 years before this happens.

The Dell latitude D830 battery replacement reivew in Amazon:

I have a Dell D830 (purchased 1.75 years ago) & a Dell D820 laptop (purchased about 3.5 years ago). The batteries are interchangeable in these 2 and the old D820 battery has begun failing to hold charge so I bought the AGPTEK Super-Capacity Li-Ion battery. The Latitude D820 Battery arrived DOA, no status lights and neither Dell recognized it. I sent it back for $8.70 in postage and the replacement does work and so far is reporting a good charge: 3.5-4 hours in the Dell D830, which is about the same as the 1.5 year old battery reports. The replacement is only a month from manufacture if I read the code AGPTek pasted on it (it has 20090720 embedded in it), and both the dud and the replacement fit well in both my Dells. However with the cost of shipping the dead battery back this battery was not such a bargain.

Purchased the Dell Latitude D820 Battery in Nov 2008 and it worked as advertised for between 6 and 7 months. At that point it quickly lost the ability to hold a charge. It still works in that my laptop can run for about 15 minutes on the battery, however the battery has bottomed out and only accepts ~20% of the capacity it had when new.

My experience with original Dell batteries is that they last about 18 months, however the cost is much higher.

This replacement battery for a Dell Latitude D830 Battery lasted 3 months before the charge wouldn't last more than an hour. The original battery would run for 3.5-4 hours on a charge, and lasted for over a year. Now at 5 months on this battery, the computer tells me that my battery is "reaching the end of its useful life".

The Dell D630 battery that was included in this D630 laptop was unusable within a year of owning this machine. Dell will not replace their own defective part because it has been 1 year and 1 week since the machine was delivered. This laptop has already had the hard drive and the power cord replaced and based on other reviews, there is clearly a problem with the battery. After spending 45 minutes on the phone with technical support and no access to a supervisor, I will not use Dell to replace this battery.

My battery lasts for 2 hours after 2 weeks of use(after following best practices of charging/discharging) which I would consider poor performance even after relatively cheaper price as compared to Dell battery that would last for at least 4.5 hours after 3 months of usage. I had to struggle a lot to fit the battery on my Dell D620. I would think twice about buying cheap as it may also be cheap in performance. I could not locate the contact number for this vendor as they don't print it on their payment receipts. Why would any vendor not like to give its customers a customer service number to call unless they are expecting return of goods instead of repeat customers

Physically, this item is nearly identical to the Dell branded battery. There are no quality issues at all. It does have the battery meter on the bottom, just like the original one. Since my Dell unit crapped out after 18mo, I can't do any side by side comparisons, but I think the original unit had a bit more capacity. I recall getting 4 hours on my D620 running Fedora Linux (thought that was for maybe the first couple months). This unit is maybe 3-3.5 but again, I haven't really done any scientific tests. It could be that I'm just harder on the Latitude D630 battery now than I was then. Either way, it's a steal at roughly 1/3 the cost of the Dell unit.

Battery Performance

NOTE: For information about the Dell warranty for your computer, see the Product Information Guide or separate paper warranty document that shipped with your computer.

For optimal computer performance and to help preserve BIOS settings, operate your Dell portable computer with the main battery installed at all times. One battery is supplied as standard equipment in the battery bay.

NOTE: Because the Dell 6400 battery may not be fully charged, use the AC adapter to connect your new computer to an electrical outlet the first time you use the computer. For best results, operate the computer with the AC adapter until the battery is fully charged. To view battery charge status, click the Start button, click Control Panel, double-click Power Options, and then click the Power Meter tab.

Battery operating time varies depending on operating conditions.

NOTE: Battery operating time (the time the inspiron 1720 battery can hold a charge) decreases over time. Depending on how often the battery is used and the conditions under which it is used, you may need to purchase a new battery during the life of your computer.

Operating time is significantly reduced when you perform operations including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Using optical drives

  • Using wireless communications devices, PC Cards, or USB devices

  • Using high-brightness display settings, 3D screen savers, or other power-intensive programs such as 3D games

  • Running the computer in maximum performance mode.

NOTE: It is recommended that you connect your computer to an electrical outlet when writing to a CD or DVD.

You can check the Dell D620 battery charge (see Checking the Battery Charge) before you insert the battery into the computer. You can also set power management options to alert you when the battery charge is low (see Configuring Power Management Settings).

CAUTION: Using an incompatible battery may increase the risk of fire or explosion. Replace the Dell D630 battery only with a compatible battery purchased from Dell. The battery is designed to work with your Dell computer. Do not use a battery from other computers with your computer.

CAUTION: Do not dispose of batteries with household waste. When your battery no longer holds a charge, call your local waste disposal or environmental agency for advice on disposing of a lithium-ion battery. See "Battery Disposal" in the Product Information Guide.

CAUTION: Misuse of the Dell D620 battery may increase the risk of fire or chemical burn. Do not puncture, incinerate, disassemble, or expose the battery to temperatures above 65 (149). Keep the battery away from children. Handle damaged or leaking batteries with extreme care. Damaged batteries may leak and cause personal injury or equipment damage.

Checking the Battery Charge

The Dell QuickSet Battery Meter, the Microsoft Windows Power Meter window and icon, the XPS m140 battery charge gauge, and the low-battery warning provide information on the battery charge.

Dell QuickSet Battery Meter

If Dell QuickSet is installed, press

to display the QuickSet Battery Meter. The inspiron e1705 Battery Meter displays status, battery health, charge level, and charge completion time for the battery in your computer.

Microsoft Windows Power Meter

The Windows Power Meter indicates the remaining 40D battery grip charge. To check the Power Meter, double-click the icon on the taskbar.

If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, a icon appears.

Charge Gauge

Before you insert a DV1000 battery, press the status button on the battery charge gauge to illuminate the charge-level lights. Each light represents approximately 20 percent of the total battery charge. For example, if the battery has 80 percent of its charge remaining, four of the lights are on. If no lights appear, the battery has no charge.

Health Gauge

The battery operating time is largely determined by the number of times it is charged. After hundreds of charge and discharge cycles, DV2000 battery lose some charge capacity, or battery health. To check the battery health, press and hold the status button on the battery charge gauge for at least 3 seconds. If no lights appear, the battery is in good condition, and more than 80 percent of its original charge capacity remains. Each light represents incremental degradation. If five lights appear, less than 60 percent of the charge capacity remains, and you should consider replacing the battery. See Specifications for more information about the battery operating time.

NOTICE: To avoid losing or corrupting data, save your work immediately after a low-battery warning. Then connect the computer to an electrical outlet, or install a second battery in the media bay. If the battery runs completely out of power, hibernate mode begins automatically.

A low-battery warning occurs when the battery charge is approximately 90 percent depleted. The computer beeps once, indicating that minimal battery operating time remains. During that time, the speaker beeps periodically. If two DV4000 batteries are installed, the low-battery warning means that the combined charge of both batteries is approximately 90 percent depleted. The computer enters hibernate mode when the battery charge is at a critically low level. For more information about low-battery alarms, see Configuring Power Management Settings.

Conserving Battery Power

Perform the following actions to conserve battery power:

  • Connect the computer to an electrical outlet when possible because battery life is largely determined by the number of times the battery is used and recharged.

  • Place the computer in standby mode or hibernate mode (see Power Management Modes) when you leave the computer unattended for long periods of time.

  • Use the Power Management Wizard (see Configuring Power Management Settings) to select options to optimize your computer's power usage. These options can also be set to change when you press the power button, close the display, or press Fn Esc;.

Charging the Battery

NOTE: With Dell ExpressCharge , when the computer is turned off, the AC adapter charges a completely discharged Dell 1300 battery to 80 percent in about 1 hour and to 100 percent in approximately 2 hours. Charge time is longer with the computer turned on. You can leave the battery in the computer for as long as you like. The battery's internal circuitry prevents the battery from overcharging.

NOTE: If you want to use a 9-cell inspiron 1300 battery to obtain Dell ExpressCharge, you need to use it in conjunction with a 90-W AC adapter.

When you connect the computer to an electrical outlet or install a battery while the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the computer checks the battery charge and temperature. If necessary, the AC adapter then charges the battery and maintains the battery charge.

If the battery is hot from being used in your computer or being in a hot environment, the battery may not charge when you connect the computer to an electrical outlet.

The Dell 6000 battery is too hot to start charging if the light flashes alternately green and orange. Disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet and allow the computer and the battery to cool to room temperature. Then connect the computer to an electrical outlet to continue charging the battery.

Replacing the Battery

CAUTION: Before performing these procedures, turn off the computer, disconnect the AC adapter from the electrical outlet and the computer, disconnect the modem from the wall connector and computer, and remove any other external cables from the computer.

CAUTION: Using an incompatible GD761 or U4873 battery may increase the risk of fire or explosion. Replace the battery only with a compatible battery purchased from Dell. The battery is designed to work with your Dell computer. Do not use a battery from other computers with your computer.

NOTICE: You must remove all external cables from the computer to avoid possible connector damage.

    To remove the battery:
  • If the computer is connected to a docking device (docked), undock it. See the documentation that came with your docking device for instructions.

  • Ensure that the computer is turned off or in hibernate mode (see Hibernate Mode).Slide the two battery-bay latch releases on the bottom of the computer toward the sides of the computer until they are engaged.

  • Grasp the battery by the Dell 1525 battery tab and slide the battery horizontally toward the front of the computer.

  • Lift to remove the battery from the bay.

  • To replace the battery, follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

    Storing a Battery

Remove the Dell 1520 battery when you store your computer for an extended period of time. A battery discharges during prolonged storage. After a long storage period, recharge the battery fully before you use it.
